Suekali (UK)
From an early age I found sanctuary and longing in music. I studied western classical music (oboe and piano) at university but in many ways it was a dis-empowering experience and I continued my search. I enjoyed teaching music in special schools for many years and trained in Creative Arts Therapy. In 1988 I left my job and went to India. I spent two years in India, Sri Lanka and Nepal, training people who worked with children in creative arts therapy in.
It was there in Kolkata that I found the music to meet my heart’s longing when I met Rajeswar Bhattacharya. I have been studying raga and Tagore songs with him for the last 18 years. In 1996 I arranged for him to visit the UK and have been organising his workshops and classes in the UK, Ireland and in India every year since then.
In 2001 I trained as a First Nature coach with Corinne Shirman-Sarti. This gentle yet profound system of body and breath work helped me embody the teaching I had received from Rajeswar.
In addition, I have immersed myself at different times in various forms of bodywork and therapy, in particular psychosynthesis and dancing the 5 rhythms (Gabrielle Roth). My time in India sparked off a passion for development work and I spent 9 years as the global disability advisor for Save the Children, and have since continued part time work in disability and development.
My passion now is to develop ‘the Singing Heart’ as a real resource for all who long to resonate from the deepest parts of themselves, and to ultimately be in tune with the true self and all that is real.
I am committed to a spiritual path and teacher which provides the context for my life and work.
